In Cherkasy, the HOA “Naddnipryanske” has comprehensively modernized a building under the “Energodim” Program, achieving energy savings of up to 50%

In Cherkasy, residents of a ten-story building constructed over 30 years ago have completed a comprehensive energy retrofit as part of the Energy House Program run by the Energy Efficiency Fund.

The result is a modern, comfortable, and energy-efficient home that is pleasant to live in all year round. At the same time, energy savings amount to approximately 47–50%, allowing co-owners to significantly reduce their utility bills.

“To say we’re satisfied would probably be an understatement. Our utility bills are now half as much as those of neighboring buildings of the same type and age. This is the best proof that our efforts were not in vain,” says Andriy Vovchenko, chairman of the board of the HOA “Naddnipryanske”.

Mr. Andriy also notes that it was quite difficult to raise the co-owners’ share of the project costs during the difficult war, but the necessary amount was ultimately raised, and the co-owners’ contributions are now gradually being recouped through the savings achieved.

“Our building used to have quite a few problems: cold walls, insufficient heat on the upper floors, and worn-out internal utilities. That’s exactly what prompted us to join the ‘Energodim’ Program. We chose a package of measures — the project seemed expensive, but the payments were spread out over three years, which made them affordable for residents. Today, we’re already seeing real savings, and the investment is gradually paying for itself. We’re very grateful for this opportunity, because without support, such changes would have been impossible.”

What measures have been implemented

As part of the “Energodim” Program, a range of energy-efficient solutions has been implemented in the building of the HOA “Naddnipryanske”:

  • Installation of an individual heating unit (IHU);
  • thermal insulation and replacement of piping for heating and hot water supply systems in unheated rooms;
  • Hydraulic balancing of the heating system (installation of automatic balancing valves);
  • comprehensive thermal insulation of exterior walls, attics (utility floors), and the roof;
  • replacement of doors and windows in common areas;
  • Upgrading the lighting system in common areas.

Financial details:

  • The total cost of the project is 14.5 million UAH
  • Grant from the Energy Efficiency Fund — 10.14 million UAH
  • Contribution from the building’s co-owners — 4.34 million UAH
  • Cost of work per apartment (60 m²) — 99,200 UAH

Results and effects

  • Reduction in energy consumption —  ≈ 50%
  • Annual savings on home heating — approximately 1.4 million UAH
  • The average savings per apartment are 9,800 UAH per year
  • Reduction in CO emissions — 304.3 tons per year

As a reminder, under the “Energodim” Program, the Energy Efficiency Fund provides support to condominium associations for the implementation of comprehensive technical solutions for the thermal modernization of buildings by awarding grants covering up to 70% of the costs. The program is funded by the State Budget of Ukraine, with financial support from the EU and the German government.
